What is Pilates?

In a nutshell, a form of rehabilitative exercise developed by joseph pilates (1883-1967). originally named contrology, the movements work the spine in every direction (or plane of motion)improving range of motion, flexibility, stability, and core strength. exercises can be done on the mat using your own body weight or props, as well as using equipment that Pilates himself invented.the most popular and recognized piece of equipment is the reformer. this was first built during wwI on hospital beds using bed springs for resistance. pilates, like yoga, is considered to be mind-body exercise as breath is incorporated throughout.
